Welcome to Podcast Done for You, the show where we make it as easy as possible
Speaker:for you to make the right choices to advance your podcasting career.
Speaker:So let's get started on the show.
Speaker:Tips and tools for creating engaging podcast titles, descriptions,
Speaker:and show notes for every episode.
Speaker:That's what we're gonna discuss in this edition of Podcast.
Speaker:Done for You, the show.
Speaker:Now these are really important elements of your podcast to get.
Speaker:First of all, the title right now, what you wanna do with the title
Speaker:is consider what your audience, I. Wants, what are they looking for?
Speaker:It's not always about what you want to deliver, it's about what are the
Speaker:things that they are searching for.
Speaker:Now, there's lots of different tools and tricks and things that you can
Speaker:use to help you work that out, but the starting point needs to be that
Speaker:you need to do the fundamental work and understand who your audience is.
Speaker:You need to look at what their wants and needs are and understand what
Speaker:they're about because the language that they use is the language that
Speaker:you are going to need to use, and there can be a fundamental difference.
Speaker:So really fine tune.
Speaker:What are those common things that people refer to?
Speaker:There are some words that are just completely a no-no and don't engage
Speaker:people, and they're specifically looking for something else, even though
Speaker:they may mean exactly the same thing.
Speaker:So these are the quirks that you need to understand of your own industry.
Speaker:So you should be doing that.
Speaker:Anyway for your business and have a pretty good understanding of that.
Speaker:So that always has to be the starting point, particularly
Speaker:for the title of the show.
Speaker:That is one of the most critical things, particularly when, again,
Speaker:when you're talking about YouTube.
Speaker:Remember, YouTube is a search engine, therefore people are looking for things.
Speaker:The way they would commonly search.
Speaker:So use all of the Google tools that you have at your
Speaker:fingertips to help you find that.
Speaker:Now, if you go to Google, as many of you might know, and I don't
Speaker:proclaim to be an SEO expert here, but we do know the basics.
Speaker:Go to Google, type in what you think.
Speaker:The search parameters might be, and then look at the bottom of the page
Speaker:where Google suggests some other things that you might be searching for often.
Speaker:That is where the truth lies in the keywords that you need to find.
Speaker:Now, of course, there are plenty of paid for keyword tools that
Speaker:are out there that may assist you.
Speaker:But the other one that you can use that I find quite effective is making
Speaker:use of some of the open AI tools.
Speaker:Now, whether you've got a paid version of it or not, and there are many of them
Speaker:out these days, we're not gonna discuss the variations of them all today, but.
Speaker:What I find is some are better than others in finding that research
Speaker:and giving you some suggestions.
Speaker:Often when you ask the AI if you can give some optimized titles based on
Speaker:keywords for spec, specify as I tend to do YouTube and Spotify, then it
Speaker:tends to justify what those keywords are and give you a few of those.
Speaker:Now, if they all make sense to you because they're not infallible,
Speaker:if they make sense to you.
Speaker:Then I suggest you utilize some of those ones as a good starting point.
Speaker:Now, of course, I do recommend that if you've got someone that is going to
Speaker:look at SEO for you, that of course, followed by what they're saying as
Speaker:far as the titles are concerned.
Speaker:But it is an important thing to really take a close look at what is
Speaker:it that they're really searching for.
Speaker:So once you have the title, it's then very easy to come up with some descriptions.
Speaker:For the, uh, show itself.
Speaker:And these are also important.
Speaker:Make use of the keywords, again, where you can keep it relatively brief.
Speaker:People don't want to read, you know, long paragraphs about, uh,
Speaker:what's going to be in the episode.
Speaker:They want a brief summary, and I always think that that is a great
Speaker:way to start your description.
Speaker:Remember.
Speaker:There's only a small amount of words that a people are going to look at,
Speaker:particularly if they're searching on their phones, which of course is where
Speaker:most people are listening to podcasts, so they're searching on their phone.
Speaker:There's only a short amount of text, so get to the point, add some extra
Speaker:value on top of what the title is.
Speaker:Don't just repeat the title.
Speaker:In the description, make sure you add some value to that.
Speaker:I think that's a really important thing to be saying, that the title is gonna
Speaker:give you one thing, the description is gonna add some value to that, and
Speaker:hopefully encourage people to want to listen to your particular episode of the
Speaker:program and then listen further from then.
Speaker:So that is where you then come into more detail.
Speaker:As far as the show notes are concerned, this is the opportunity to share
Speaker:some additional things that happen.
Speaker:During the course of the podcast, now chapters are one part of this as well.
Speaker:So definitely make a note of chapters that are, that is, in other words,
Speaker:different things that are parts of the conversation happening at different
Speaker:points during your podcast episode.
Speaker:It's really important to have those shortcuts there.
Speaker:'cause sometimes people aren't looking for everything.
Speaker:For example, in this episode we've talked about.
Speaker:Wanting to give you some information about titles, descriptions, and show notes.
Speaker:Well, it might well be that you've already got the titles and the
Speaker:descriptions under wrap, and you just wanna jump to this section where
Speaker:we're talking about the show notes.
Speaker:So you should provide people with that opportunity if you can, because it is
Speaker:convenient, and then they will want to come to you for more in the future.
Speaker:Now, show notes is a great opportunity for you to have lots of things in there.
Speaker:Aside from the description, it is an opportunity to share additional
Speaker:things that maybe have been mentioned during the podcast episode, or
Speaker:things that add value to the podcast.
Speaker:So it could be there is a download of some description, or it could be sending them
Speaker:to a landing page where you can get a hold of that download, particularly if you want
Speaker:to convert some of your, uh, listeners.
Speaker:Into people who will go onto your database.
Speaker:So once they go somewhere to pick something up, it shows you they're
Speaker:quite interested in what you have to say and uh, you can go through the
Speaker:normal processes then of adding them to your database because suddenly
Speaker:they've gone from a blind listener as far as you are concerned to someone.
Speaker:Who actually is known to you.
Speaker:So that's an important area in the show notes.
Speaker:It's also an important opportunity to, uh, make a mention of those
Speaker:people that have assisted you with the podcast in some way, shape, or form.
Speaker:It's a nice way of being able to do that and recognize the efforts that
Speaker:they have put in and help build a name for you and for the other people
Speaker:that are involved in that process.
Speaker:Of course you need all the standard stuff as well, making sure that you
Speaker:have links to all of your necessary tools, be it a website, be it particular
Speaker:social media platforms or anything else that you have going on at that point.
Speaker:And you should do the same for your guests as well when it comes to that.
Speaker:And that's where we might go back to the description for a
Speaker:moment and say that include.
Speaker:The person that you have as a guest on the program in your description,
Speaker:so that any value from them is also gonna be shared with your network.
Speaker:Now the question going back to the beginning then is do you actually include
Speaker:the guest in the title of the show?
Speaker:Well, there's really mixed reviews on whether that is a value or not.
Speaker:I think the answer is, it depends in part on the profile of the person.
Speaker:If you have a reasonably high profile person, and that doesn't mean that
Speaker:they are a celebrity to the whole world, it just means within your
Speaker:sector that they are a profile person.
Speaker:Then I would suggest that including them in the show title is a good idea,
Speaker:and therefore expanding on that in the description and then having a link to
Speaker:further details from them in the show notes makes that quite comprehensive.
Speaker:Now, why do that?
Speaker:Well, because if people are searching for them, your podcast episode will
Speaker:also appear, and I think that is an important thing to manage in the process.
Speaker:So you want these things to all be linked along the way.
Speaker:So when it comes to engaging your audience, add value.
Speaker:This is the point.
Speaker:Know what they want, understand what they need as well.
Speaker:Because remember, there is a difference between wants and needs.
Speaker:So do the groundwork, use the right language.
Speaker:Engage with them from the title through to the description
Speaker:and through to the show notes.
Speaker:It will make a huge difference to the reach of your podcast.
Speaker:Now, where do you do that?
Speaker:Well, most of the, uh, platforms that you might be using to publish
Speaker:your podcast will have that opportunity to add that in there.
Speaker:Some will also have, uh, an opportunity to add some metadata.
Speaker:As you do on a website to further help with some of those keywords that you've
Speaker:been researching and looking for.
Speaker:Now, we of course, use Captivate as our primary platform, and that
Speaker:has all of those tools available to you as far as the AI is concerned.
Speaker:Again, use whatever AI suits you best.
Speaker:Personally, I found my ninja is working quite well for me because it allows me
Speaker:to go across multiple different, uh, AI tools and we'll include a link to
Speaker:my ninja in the show notes as well.
Speaker:I find that as a particularly good tool because you can decide what the difference
Speaker:might be if you go and use a chat, GPTA, Claude a, um, deep seek or any of the
Speaker:others, uh, that are in there as well, and you can utilize all of them to see
Speaker:if there is some significant difference.
Speaker:And start working on what is going to work best for you moving forward.
Speaker:So there you go.
Speaker:Some real information about all of that.
Speaker:And of course, as I always point out to you at podcast done for you, we
